Cicada’s Song
Interactive sculpture consisting of 64 letters and postcards connected to mobile phone vibration motors. The Artwork has its own phone number and by sending an SMS several vibration patterns can be trigered.
This object adresses changes in communication habits. During a visit on Frazer Island in Australia I experienced a weird sound phenomena that derived from communicating cicadas. by collecting letters from my family and also random finds from antique bookstores it recreates fractures of history. how much more information is stored in these individual letters compared to the simple messages we send everyday with our smartphones?
