From the social sculpture of Joseph Beuys to Volkmar Hoppe’s and Rolf Kruse’s personal invitation to take their world into our own hands. To reshape it according to our own ideas. To question our perceptions and playfully transform them.
Volkmar Hoppe’s formal and visual language stems primarily from the repertoire of comics and mechanistic construction.
Yet the fascination arises precisely at this intersection, in the unique combination of fantastical chaos and precise fit.
It was under these criteria that the idea for the sculpture ALMOST CERTAIN emerged in 2021. Initially a static image as a silkscreen print, but subsequently realized as a three-dimensional and simultaneously transformable object.
Basic geometric forms made of black-lacquered wood, with embedded magnets serving as static connecting points.
In addition, several elements lacquered in red and white serve as end pieces.

And this is precisely where the translation and continuation of the tangible, real object into mixed reality begins—into a virtual sculpture that can be modified at will.
The core of this process is the real object generated by ALMOST CERTAIN, displayed on a presentation surface measuring 70 x 70 x 70 cm.
This interactive concept is brought to life through the use of Quest 3 mixed reality headsets.
The modules in the virtual space are precisely to scale and can be docked onto the interfaces of the real-world sculpture and rotated in 90° increments.
To virtually extend the sculpture, there are modules with multiple interfaces. In the realm of mixed reality, this results in endless possibilities for combination.
As a duplicate, it is supplemented in parallel on a much larger scale. Through this effect, the designer suddenly acts directly within his OWN action. He becomes part of a virtual structure that towers above him, which he simultaneously creates in the real world on a small scale.
